Director Morgan Neville and subject François Clemmons expected to attend April 7 screening.

Remembered for his cardigans and messages of acceptance, Fred Rogers was an unusual television personality. Morgan Neville’s unexpectedly moving portrait of the seminarian turned TV pioneer tells the story of his decades-long run on the small screen, deploying a trove of archival material to illustrate what made his shows unique while gently evoking larger questions about television, childhood, kindness, and how we treat our neighbors. Whether or not you were a fan, you will find yourself thinking, “I like you as you are.”

"Won’t You Be My Neighbor? is easily one of the most touching, tearful documentaries I’ve ever seen. As the credits rolled here at Sundance, sniffles could be heard as many audience members wiped tears from their eyes and cheeks, yours truly included. This documentary pulled at my heartstrings in all the right ways and makes me long for the days when we had someone like Fred Rogers to make the world a little less scary for children and adults. We may never get a gift like Fred Rogers again." – Ethan Anterton, Slash Film

"Despite the celebratory tone, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? shies away from the hagiographic trappings of this adorable material. Rogers’s gentle mannerisms and shy grin have been the target of endlessly cynical interpretations, and the movie confronts the bulk of them, yielding the takeaway that sordid theories about Rogers say more about society than the man himself." – Eric Kohn, Indiewire
