Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind

Documentary Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind

Guests Expected

Director Marina Zenovich expected to attend.

Description

This pitch-perfect portrait of Robin Williams, among the greatest comedic voices of all time and a vigorous champion of Bay Area culture, is at turns hilarious, heartbreaking, and awe-inspiring. Through the gifted lens of award-winning director Marina Zenovich (Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, 2008), we get an intimate look into his immense, barely comprehensible talent, his disarming self-awareness (largely conveyed through never-before heard audio tapes), and the crippling illnesses and addictions that ended his life.

“In Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, a documentary that’s sharp-edged, humane, and deeply researched enough to take you closer to the manic engine of Williams’s brilliance and pain than you were before, the smartest decision made by the director, Marina Zenovich, was to use a great many never-before-seen outtakes, as well as clips from obscure or forgotten performances, so that Williams’s routines hit the audience with a fresh ping. In one of the most spectacular of these clips, the film replays the extended acceptance speech he made for Best Actor at the 2003 Critics’ Choice awards.” – Owen Gleiberman, Variety

Director Marina Zenovich

Among Marina Zenovich’s previous films are Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired (2008), winner of Emmys for Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming and Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming; Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic (2013); and Water & Power: A California Heist (2017). She describes her biggest challenge in making Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind: “There were many but I’d say the biggest challenge was doing justice to his comedy. His comedy is so quick and in the moment. The challenge was how to capture that magic within the confines of a documentary. Getting that balance right was hard. I took a lot of time just trying different things.” (womenandhollywood.com)
